This blog is inspired by my daughter Victoria. Here’s the story. My husband and I had purchased these costume gold chains for a decade day at our church. We dressed up in the 80’s era. After we were finished with the gold chains my daughter asked my husband if she could have his. So, he gave it to her.
She wore it pretty much every chance she could get. One day we were traveling to Florida to visit my family and we noticed that she was playing with the gold chain but we saw that it was broken. We told her that it was broken so she could no longer wear it and that she should just throw it away. She was upset about that command and I could see it on her face that she really didn’t want to throw it away. Her response to us was, “But I like it broken”.
I looked at my husband and then I looked at her and smiled and told her that she could keep it. But as I stood there in line I began to think about the goodness of God. My daughter’s statement was a very powerful one, “But I like it Broken”.
That is how God feels about us. People may think that you’re damaged goods and they no longer want anything to do with you. But God says I love everything about you, even your broken pieces.
God still sees beauty in our brokenness. We don’t have to be perfect or have it all together for God to love us. He just does.
Psalms 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those who spirits are crushed.”
I remember being very broken. My heart was just completely crushed by a guy I loved and I didn’t think I was going to come back from it. I was in so much pain and the ending of that relationship caused so much brokenness within me. I had so many dreams for that relationship. I thought this guy was my future husband. He was a Christian, my family loved him and then it happened… he found someone else.
You can only imagine how broken I was. But the great thing about it is that it drew me closer to God. I found that scripture during that tough time (Psalms 34:18). I felt God and I felt His presence in the midst of my brokenness. He definitely rescued me.
So no matter what you may be going through. No matter how broken you may feel. God is close to you. He is with you. He loves you so much that He wants to rescue you from that brokenness. But more importantly, He likes you just the way you are, broken and all, because only He can make you Whole again.
Love you Beautiful! Remember to Stay Affirmed!
